Political parties in Manipur have started to gear up for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls in next year.
Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Manipur Pradesh is likely to project former forest minister Prof Gangmumei Kamei as the party candidate in the Lok Sabha polls from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency while Dr RK Ranjan for the inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, though no formal announcement has been made in this regard so far.
Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress (MPTC)also wants to field its President Kim Gangte, also an ex-MP, in the coming Lok Sabha Election from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
Meanwhile Former minister Chungkhokai Doungel will be Nationalist Congress Party(NCP)’s candidate for Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, according to MLA L Ibomcha who is the president of NCP Manipur state unit. However the announcement to be made by the central leadership of the respective national parties will be the final for their candidatures, sources added.
Amidst this Manipur People’s Party and Janta Dal (United) are actively involved in the deliberation for common candidates.
According to a reliable source, the Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Unit also wants project its state secretary Dr M Nara as a common candidate (for the opposition parties) or CPI’s own candidate from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
In the last Lok Sabha polls, Congress bags both the Lok Sabha seats of Manipur and lone Rajya Sabha seat also goes to congress.
